limited release of Death Note

Unknownit’s not too late to catch the movie DeathNote in theaters. you can still be among the lucky movie goers to get to experience the manga-come to life film on the big screen. under special arrangement with over 200 movie theaters across the country, Death Note is being shown only on May 20th and May 21st at 7:30pm. talk about a limited engagement!! but that just makes this event all the more special, in my opinion. the plot centers around a supernatural notebook that will kill the person who’s name is written in it. an university student named Light Yagami happens upon the notebook and eventually decides to use it to rid society of evil doers. based on a popular japanese manga series, the film topped the japanese box office back in the summer of 2006. the film has now been re-dubbed for the U.S. audiences and is ready to delight fans of the manga series around the nation. be sure to check fathomevents.com for a screening near you. man, can you imagine finding something that gave you supernatural abilities? instead of having the ability to kill others like Light Yagami, I think the power to read and change other people’s minds would impact the world even more. not only can you then know what others are thinking but you then have the ability to alter their thoughts to your own benefit. that would be amazing. what supernatural ability would you want?

musicians with credit

most working musicians I know always seem to be strapped for cash. I can imagine it being a bit tough “living the dream”. only the privileged few get the oversized yachts, the glory, the fame and the girls. the rest in the music biz are barely getting by, working odd jobs by day and playing the club circuit at night. most depend on credit cards to help finance their music gear needs. and now with the help of websites like Credit Card Club, working musicians can quickly and easily do the research to get the best credit card deals including low interest and no annual fee cards. with the state of the economy as it is and the rising cost of fuel and food, it’s prudent to get rid of the high interest credit cards and transfer the balance to a new card with a lower rate.

Grass by XTC - an old favorite off of Skylarking
Just a Shadow by Big Country - a great acoustic version of this song
No World Order by Todd Rundgren - the special yokohama night version. yes, that’s Todd RAPPING on this track. heh.
Fields of Fire by Big Country - the live version off of Live without a Safety Net!
No Surrender by The Outfield - a classic song from their sophomore effort, Bangin’
Freedom by David Foster - no, not the crappy McCartney tune. It’s a great instrumental track by the master of sappy ballads, David Foster.
No World Order by Todd Rundgren - yup. Todd rapping again. but this time, it’s the Yokohama MORNING version
All of my Life by Phil Collins - uummm, I can’t really remember why I uploaded this track. well, here ya go anyway…
You are the Only One to Make Me Cry by Crowded House - a great track by Neil Finn and company
See Your Sunshine by Paul McCartney - one of my favorites off of the album Memory Almost Full
Cage by McCartney and Wings - a great unreleased track from the “Back to the Egg” era.
Aqua by Asia - a nice little instrumental track that features Steve Howe on acoustic guitar and Geoff Downes on synths.

Have a great weekend.

thanking the teachers

thank you cards from cards directas the school year draws to a close, it’s always impressive to review all the things the kids have accomplished during the course of the year. I’m constantly in awe of the teaching staff at school especially since I know I’d be running for the hills screaming my head off from having to deal with some of those rowdy kids in class. so, for teacher appreciation week, I had my kids write out personalized Thank you cards to their respective teachers. some may dismiss the significance of thank you cards but I feel that they can be very effective especially when the card is written with honest sincerity. I made sure to convey to the kids that a well written card can mean so much to the recipient and that they need to invest time and effort to make each card special. at times I feel that some people just don’t get the “thanks” that they deserve. it seems that proper manners and respect have been lost somewhat among the new generation. that’s why I’m going to go out of my way to make sure I thank those around me whenever the appropriate occasion arises. I’ve even ordered some personalized cards from Cards Direct just so that I can quickly and easily send them out in a timely manner. Ordering these customized cards online makes things much more convenient plus the quality in printing and in the card stock are tough to beat.

CashBack

I’m not totally sure why Sean Ellis needed to go back and expand his award winning short, Cashback, into a feature length film. The 20 minute short was perfect as is. the feature film version on the other hand just felt long and pointless. in fact, the highlight of the feature film is the appearance of Ellis’ original short that is pretty much left intact and comes after a rather slow and dull opening sequence that fills us in on the backstory. in the film, Ellis fleshes out the story surrounding the lead character Ben’s breakup with Suzy and his developing relationship with Sharon. Ellis’ short was fresh and fun but his take on relationships here in the feature length story is riddled with cliches and stuff we’ve all scene countless of times before in other movies. it’s really unfortunate for Ellis especially after all the hype and praise surrounding the Cashback short. there’s really no need to see the film if you’ve already seen the short. … OK, maybe for the gratuitous nudity but that’s about it…
