Rundgren – expect the unexpected!

June 30, 2008

Rundgren - Arenahuzzah! Todd Rundgren heard his fans cries for a brand new set list and has come up with a new set of songs for his summer tour. but instead of drawing from his vast back catalog, Rundgren has decided to play all the songs off of his upcoming studio album titled Arena.
you heard right, brand new songs from an album that hasn’t been released yet. the man’s got balls playing 13 songs that the audience never heard before. but that’s per usual for Todd – doing the unexpected and going against the grain.

note: spoiler alert – don’t read any further if you don’t want to see the current set list…

Set List (from the Cleveland House of Blues show 6/29/2008):

Love In Action
Walls Came Down
Black Maria
Open My eyes
Lunatic Fringe
I Saw The Light
Mad
Afraid
Mercenary
Gun
Courage
Weakness
Strike
Pissin
Today
Bardo
Mountaintop
Panic
Manup

encore:
Couldn’t I just Tell You
Just One Victory

I’m not really sure why Todd still keeps playing those two covers (Walls Came Down, Lunatic Fringe). the two songs are far from fan favorites and frankly the songs aren’t all that great to begin with. I’d love to see Todd replace those two songs on the list with practically anything else from his past albums. but hearing the Arena songs before their release must be a REAL treat for long time Todd fans. but for casual fans, I’m not so sure…
