Dr. Seuss onesies for your retro-baby!

March 2, 2009

To celebrate Dr. Seuss’ 105th birthday today, I purchased some cool Dr Seuss baby clothes for my nephew. Like millions of other families around the world, Dr. Seuss’ books have always been treasured reading in this household. I’ve always enjoyed reading “Green Eggs and Ham” and “Fox in Socks” to my little ones. The unique poetic meter, the splendid word choices and the wonderful art work make these children’s books an absolute pleasure to read over and over again. The same can’t be said about a lot of other children’s books out on the market today. That’s why I’m making it a point to celebrate Dr. Seuss and his legacy by giving some neat baby onesies as gifts for my newborn nephew. Since I have fond memories of reading “Green Eggs and Ham” as a kid, I made sure to pick the Green Eggs and Ham onesie! I haven’t seen these at any of the usual baby retailers so it seems ordering from TheRetroBaby.com is the only way to go. Their site features unique and fun designs and their currently offering free express shipping for orders over $75. So, celebrate the genius of Dr. Seuss by getting your baby apparel at The Retro Baby today!

Keith Emerson Band featuring Marc Bonilla

March 2, 2009

I guess at this stage in the game, Keith Emerson won’t be going out of his way to try and win over new fans. Legacy artists like Emerson already have a built-in fan base to feed off of. All they have to do is release product that’ll connect with all those existing fans. And I’m pretty sure that was part of the plan with Emerson’s latest release – Keith Emerson Band featuring Marc Bonilla. Long time listeners of Emerson, Lake and Palmer will feel right at home with this new album. The basic elements from ELP are all here – bombastic prog fused with classical bits along with some melodic rock thrown in for good measure. There’s even the requisite honky-tonk number on the album (“Gametime”). I totally enjoy Emerson’s playing and would have personally preferred a completely instrumental album. He’s got some great musicians here including Marc Bonilla on guitar and Gregg Bissonette on drums but whenever Bonilla starts singing, it just feels derivative of ELP’s past work. Bonilla even sounds sort of like Greg Lake. “A Place to Hide” is probably the most listenable vocal-based track on the album but most of the others are just marred with clunky lyrics and bland melodies.
