Yes – Asia – summer tour dates – so far
So the rumors turned out to be true! Legendary prog-rock group Yes will indeed be touring the U.S. this summer with Asia. I was personally pulling for a triple bill with ELP but apparently that didn’t pan out. And maybe that’s a blessing in disguise since a triple bill would require a severely shortened setlist for all the groups involved which concert goers probably wouldn’t want anyway. An official announcement is imminent but in the meantime dates are slowly trickling in.
here are the dates so far -
July 2, 2009 San Francisco, CA
July 3, 2009 Saratoga, CA
July 18, 2009 Minneapolis, MN
July 29, 2009 Montclair, NJ
August 2, 2009 Bethlehem, PA
August 9, 2009 Dallas, TX
I’ll probably post again once I get the official announcement. If they end up in my neck of the woods, I would definitely see this show!
The only downer is that Jon Anderson won’t be fronting Yes on this tour. Benoit David will still be singing for them. Oh and the interesting twist is Steve Howe doing double duty performing with both groups!!! So, hopefully he’ll be able to stay healthy for the duration of the tour!!

that’s great news! why not all of them get on stage and play together for one song for an encore a la the Union tour? something like Roundabout since Asia already knows how to play it!!!
I clicked on Rich’s name & it appears him & others are Asia fans, huh? Thank God Im not the only one who likes their music. All I could think about when I read Rich’s comment is the part in “The 40 year old virgin” movie when they say “You have a framed poster of Asia”? “Did the people at the frame shop laugh when you brought that in to get it framed?” Something to that effect anyway. Here’s a fan test “You’re at a red light & your favorite Asia song that is never played comes on the radio & then a red hot girl or guy (whichever) pulls up by you do you roll up your windows or proudly let it blare?
I’m a huge Judd Apatow fan (the guy who made 40 Year Old Virgin) so, I know all about that “I know you’re gay cuz you’re an Asia Fan” joke!!
but it’s no big deal b/c just look at the list of bands and musicians I blog about (under “tags” on the left column). yup, lots of bands that the mainstream may think lame or uncool.
So with a blog full of old has-been bands proudly displayed for all to see, why would I not roll down my window and say “hey” to the red hot girl? especially on the day I sport my grey members only jacket and bright yellow parachute pants! heh!
I dont think Asia got alot of the credit they deserved. They got mixed in with Kansas, Boston, 38 Special, Foreigner & others & got lost in the shuffle. Alot of songs on the radio that people are singing along with are by Asia, but people confuse them with those other bands. IMO only
exactly 10Doll. I think the label was “corporate rock” where they were “faceless” bands that all sorta sounded the same in a way.
good to know you’re a fan. wanna go see them this summer? :inlove:
I dont think any of them are lame. I love music, stories behind why a song was wrote, band break up stories, where they are now updates. Love it all. The butts that think it’s lame or uncool need to realize that if it wasnt for this “lame & uncool” music, the music they love today would not exist.

I’m an Asia fan, too! “Only Time Will Tell” is one of the BEST songs ever written.
10doll – At a red light, I’d proudly let it blare!!! Much better than the garbage that’s out there today, IMO.
Wow. I totally miss the 80′s and the music. Takes me back to a time when I didn’t have bills, car repairs, health issues, stress, worries, and kids at the doctor’s office every week! (LOL)
I love to go see the bands as long as as many original members are in it that’s possible. I went to a music festival thing a cople of years ago & 38 Special & Marshall Tucker were there & I ate it up! For a moment in time I can be cruisin with my friends, before reality kicks in & Im scrubbing grass stains outta my kids jeans. That music will be around when my kids are old & grey & I dont think alot of todays music will be able to hold up as well if at all.

OK Daniel, I just saw the memo…who is Asia?
Lisa, I think you’re a bit too young to remember Asia and Yes.
they are two prog-rock bands. Yes were big in the 70′s-80′s and Asia had some hits in the early 80′s.
Well if I would have looked at the top of the page I would have known…DUH! I thought I was over there on the other page. Sometimes I think my highlights give me a blond moment.

“I love to go see the bands as long as as many original members are in it that’s possible.”
I totally agree. Nothing comes close to the original members and “their” sound. I saw .38 Special in the 90′s at a small venue, and it was so much better than some of the huge stadium concerts I’ve seen!
“That music will be around when my kids are old & grey & I dont think alot of todays music will be able to hold up as well if at all.”
Again, I totally agree. My kids are growing up on my husband’s and my old music, instead of the stuff that is on the airwaves these days. They love our old music. I’ve turned my 6 year old into a total RUSH fan!
FancyNancy – Rush! that’s amazing a six year old would like Rush! cool!
I remember playing “temple of syrinx” in a cover band back in high school! awesome!

“Lisa, I think you’re a bit too young to remember Asia and Yes.”
I qualify! I’m ancient, what can I say? I remember Topsiders, button-downs, pinstriped jeans, big hair, shoulder pads, Members Only jackets AND parachute pants! Too funny!! (I feel like I need to get to Study Hall or something! This is surreal!)
OT, but are you a RUSH fan? I didn’t see them on your list, but I thought I’d ask.
Nowhere else to put this, but “Africa” is another one of the BEST songs ever written. Ahhhh…..I love the 80′s……..
Daniel -
Sorry! I didn’t see your post about RUSH! Yeah, my daughter loves them! I remember going to a RUSH concert way back when, and sitting next to me was a 10 year old just belting out the lyrics to all of their songs! It made me proud. He was definitely raised in a good household!!!
FancyNancy – don’t forget legwarmers and spandex. heh.
I’m not a big fan of Geddy Lee’s voice but Neil Peart is amazing to watch.
and I have fond memories of playing some Rush covers in high school. as a cover band, you get some “cred” if you can play Rush, Led Zep and Yes.
“Heat Of The Moment”…I almost forgot about that one! I think I could get lost in this website today. So many good things to read. (And I don’t have to unleash my “inner Ramsay” on these music boards.)
Daniel -
OT, but would you be willing to add RUSH somewhere on your page for me? I’d love to talk with other fans about them.
Daniel -
“FancyNancy – don’t forget legwarmers and spandex. heh.”
I was forgetting them on PURPOSE! (LOL)
“I’m not a big fan of Geddy Lee’s voice but Neil Peart is amazing to watch.”
Neil Peart is amazing for sure! Probably one of the best drummers in history.
Geddy’s voice is definitely an acquired taste, but if you focus on the amazing lyrics, you can almost tune it out. Does that make sense?
“and I have fond memories of playing some Rush covers in high school. as a cover band, you get some “cred” if you can play Rush, Led Zep and Yes.”
I bet you do get “cred” – those are/were 3 brilliant groups!
(How do you BOLD type on here?)
FancyNancy, I’ll post about Rush sometime soon – just for you! :music:
Thank you, Daniel!
