A Wizard A True Star LIVE – Rundgren – AWATS
Todd Rundgren fans are in for a treat this coming September. Rundgren is scheduled to perform the entire A Wizard, A True Star album live at the Akron Civic Theatre in Akron, Ohio on September 6, 2009. This is a very unique event for Todd fans and depending on the demand for tickets for this event, it may be THE ONLY CHANCE to see AWATS performed live. The idea of a special AWATS show has been floating around for quite some time but for some reason concert promoters weren’t interested in putting the show together. But thanks to Todd fans Doug and CruiserMel, the dream will now become reality. Known to most Todd fans as the voices behind Rundgren Radio, Doug and CruiserMel recently dipped their toes into concert promotion themselves by putting together various shows for Rundgren and Kasim Sulton over the last year or so. The show will also mark the 2nd year of their popular online talk radio program, Rundgren Radio. AWATS is considered a landmark album in Rundgren’s long recording career and seeing him perform the whole thing live is a dream come true for most fans.

Tickets will go on sale May 4th via Ticketmaster

Will there be a Portland Oregon show?
Todd always comes to Portland!

“Another pretty thing dead on the end of the shaft… of Zen Archerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!” etc.. (sax soloing away!)
Gary, I’m sure Todd would love to bring AWATS to more cities beyond the initial set of dates in september (along with London in 2010). but it all depends on concert promoters willing to foot the bill to bring the show to your town.
hopefully all the dates in september will end up selling-out which would reassure promoters that there is strong demand for AWATS.
anyway, I listed the current AWATS dates on this page just in case you didn’t see it earlier.

Anyone know if there is an opening act for the Stanford show??
hey Joe, yes, there’s an “opening act” for the show. but, it’s a “surprise”! I don’t want to ruin it for you.
enjoy the show!!
Hey RetroDan,
Thanks for the reply. My problem is this: I am traveling from North Jersey to CT, and may get there late. I would not want to miss this opening act surprise, but reality dictates….Stamford is advertising 8pm for showtime, but my ticket says 7:30pm. Do you know specifics for opening act time? and AWATS?
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Joe
hey Joe, I believe show time is scheduled for 7:30pm. the opening act will probably do about a 40 min set. but you really don’t want to miss the opening set!! hope you make it on time!
I was at the Chicago show on Sunday 9/13 -
Wow
Just the stage show is fantastic, then add the music, Roger Powell, Kasim Sulton, and of course Todd, whose voice is miraculously untouched by time.
Wow
Historic
Epic
Memorable
[...] I caught the two Chicago gigs via webcast this past weekend and it was well worth the $20. It featured multi-camera views of the concert and good sound right off the soundboard. Todocast also provides the webcast as an archive so for those that didn’t catch the show live can still watch the shows after the fact.[...]
