Remember just a few years ago when 1.5 mbps internet service was considered “high speed”? At the time, it all seemed more than enough to cover our multimedia needs. But as we become more web savvy and more legitimate video content becomes available online, the demand for more bandwidth and speed continues to increase. The need for speed isn’t just associated with gamers and file-sharers anymore. We’ve all become more dependent on the internet which includes things that range from simple email messaging to the more complex and resource intensive like video conferencing. There’s no denying that a big portion of our daily life is connected somehow to the internet. We connect with our friends and family through it. We get our daily news and weather from it. We even watch our favorites shows and movies on it. Internet providers like Charter Communications realize this and are constantly working to provide faster connections to their customers. Charter is currently testing a 60 mbps internet service called Ultra60 in the St. Louis area. It’s one of the fastest connections currently offered in the U.S. and the company is planning on expanding the service to other markets within the year. You can see which areas they’ll be hitting next on their Ultra60 Information Page. With Ultra60, there’s no lag time in streaming HD content and transferring large mega-sized files across the web will literally take seconds. Just imagine how the internet will evolve now with increased speeds such as this available to the masses. There’s a huge buzz developing about this type of “phatband” service as evident by the number of people following Charter’s Twitter Feed. I can’t wait until the service is unleashed in my area.
